1st day of school and things

Joseph has officially started grad school. He mostly loves it. So far he thinks UNLV is interesting. . . his eyes come home burning everyday from all the skin he sees (male & female). He constantly studies so even though he's home we don't get to play with him too often.
Ruby has grown a lot since we got to Vegas. She now reaches for toys and can hold them for a few seconds before her arms wig out.
She still has great hair which continues to grow and still refuses to lay down. We don't need headbands anymore. . . Ruby's hair is long enough for bows and even tiny ponytails (you can kind of see one in the picture above).
She wants to sit up ALL of the time and fusses when she's not up where she can see what everyone is doing.
She gets stronger everyday. . . watch out she might be crawling soon!

Uncle TJ's visit

Uncle TJ and soon to be Aunt Hannah came to vist the other day. We watched the BYU game, ate chicken wings and played with Ruby. This is how uncles play with nieces I guess.

The DMV

Joseph and I have visited the DMV three times so far this week and are scheduled for at least two more visits until we are done with them. Today was fairly exciting. We finally had gathered up all of our paperwork and waited our hour in line for an attendant. Which I must add that all of the government workers we've met in Vegas so far are super cranky. Don't know why but they don't smile and they do their best NOT to help you. (Sorry about the side note). So as we waited in line Ruby started fussing. I fed her a little bit of a bottle and she filled her diaper. So I put her against my chest and took her to the ladies room to clean her up. When I got in there and laid her on the changing table I noticed a huge stain on the front of her onsie and on the front of my shirt. Not only did she soil herself but she soiled me too. So back out into the waiting area I went with a naked baby and a huge poop stain on my shirt. Luckily I packed a blanket so she had something to cover her body. I'm not sure if I smelled bad, but I figured that it would not be worth giving up my number to run home and change. Our number was finally called and we headed to a desk only to find out that Joseph still could not get a license because of a ticket he got last year. He now has to take a written test and a driving test (which he can't do for 6 weeks) in order to get a license. Ruby was fussy almost our entire visit there and by the time they took my picture for a license all I could do was grimace. Nevada why do you hate us so much? We're trying so hard to give you a chance and all you do is spit in our faces.

Is Vegas our favorite place to live. . . absolutely not (at least not yet. . .)

Man it's hot

Vegas so far has been a bit of a debacle. Budget Rental gouged us on gas. . . had to call their roadside assistance after the trailer started smoking. . . had to stop and buy antifreeze when the truck started overheating. But all of that is a totally different story. We have learned a few things about Vegas so far.

- It's HOT.

- People have terrible grammar. For example we printed off a coupon to get smog tests done on our cars and the coupon stated, "bring in your car and we'll took great care of it."

- Underwear is not required. . . even of old ladies. Gross

- It is almost impossible to get a driver's license.

- Almost everyone is trashy. You don't have to dress up much to look like a rich person. In fact I don't think I've worn makeup since I got here.

- Man it's HOT.

We love our apartment and are slowly getting settled in. We'll be glad when all of the moving in is over and we're back into a rhythm.

Still time for a little fun...

Amid the boxes that litter my house we still had time to play hairdresser. The elastics aren't very tight but it's a glimpse of what's to come.

Sleeping

I debate everyday whether I should join her or get stuff done around the house. . . if you come over to my house you'll know which option I usually go with.

The blessed day

Ruby was blessed on Sunday. . . we had lots of wonderful family and friends there to support. We also had a wonderful lunch afterwards. Thanks to everyone who was there!

Her grandmama made her dress. . . which was beautiful and made to look similar to my wedding dress. And her grandma made a beautiful white receiving blanket. What a lucky girl.
